We are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Supervisor / Workshop Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of a busy commercial vehicle maintenance facility managing a fleet of approximately 200 vehicles.
This is an excellent opportunity for a strong leader with a solid HGV technician background and an International CPC qualification to take ownership of workshop performance, customer relationships, compliance standards, and team development.
You will be responsible for leading a team of up to 8 staff while ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the workshop and fleet maintenance activities.
Responsibilities
- Manage and lead a team of up to 8 workshop and engineering staff.
- Oversee maintenance, servicing, inspections, and repairs across a fleet of approximately 200 vehicles.
- Ensure full compliance with DVSA regulations, Operator Licence requirements, and company policies.
- Drive high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance, and workshop best practice.
- Manage workshop productivity, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and stakeholders.
- Handle customer enquiries and resolve operational issues confidently and professionally.
- Monitor maintenance costs and identify opportunities for improved efficiency and cost control.
- Ensure accurate maintenance records, service documentation, and compliance reporting.
- Support tendering activities and supplier management where required.
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members to maximise performance and engagement.
- Lead investigations relating to accidents, incidents, defects, and compliance matters.
- Promote a positive culture focused on safety, quality, and customer service.
About You
- Previous experience within an HGV maintenance or commercial vehicle workshop environment.
- Strong technical background as an HGV Technician, Workshop Supervisor, or Workshop Manager.
- International CPC qualification.
- Proven experience managing and motivating teams.
- Strong leadership skills with the confidence to make decisions and challenge poor performance when required.
- Excellent customer-facing and stakeholder management skills.
- Good understanding of fleet compliance, vehicle maintenance legislation, and Operator Licence requirements.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively.
Desirable
- Experience managing large mixed commercial vehicle fleets.
- Knowledge of workshop management systems and maintenance planning software.
- Experience of contract management and supplier negotiations.
